If you have a gummy smile, it may make you feel self-conscious. Hesitating to smile and laugh, even in photos, can put a damper on what should be happy occasions. Fortunately, Dr. Nathan Simarro and Dr. Ryan Simarro at Simarro Brothers Dental Care have the solution you need: Botox for gummy smiles. Let’s dive in and find answers to some of the most common questions you may have about this treatment.
If you have a lot of gum tissue showing above your upper teeth when you smile, this is called a gummy smile. Usually, a gummy smile measures more than 3-4 mm. Gummy smiles can be caused by a few different things, including an upper lip that’s hyperactive or an overgrowth of gum tissue. For some people, their teeth and jawbones may have developed in a way that caused a gummy smile.
Botox works for a gummy smile by temporarily relaxing your hyperactive upper lip muscles. These muscles may lift too high when you smile. By reducing that movement, Botox will allow your upper lip to rest slightly lower. This helps because it covers more of your gums to create a more balanced and natural-looking smile.
When you choose Botox for a gummy smile at our office in Antioch, California, you can enjoy these benefits:
Most patients start to see changes in their smile between three and five days after the Botox injection. Full results usually start to show up about one to two weeks after your treatment. When you have your consultation with Dr. Nathan Simarro or Dr. Ryan Simarro, they will give you a more accurate timeline.
For most people, results from Botox for a gummy smile correction generally last between three and four months. That’s when you will need a touch-up treatment to maintain your improved smile line.
The Botox treatment process is quick and straightforward. You should be done in about 30 minutes.
Botox can easily be combined with other cosmetic options to enhance your overall look. One example includes dermal fillers, which you can use to add volume to your lips or smooth some of the fine lines around your mouth.
Many of our patients also opt for pairing Botox with cosmetic dental treatments, like veneers or professional teeth whitening. Simarro Brothers Dental Care is located at 5201 Deer Valley Road, Suite #3B, Antioch, CA 94531. Call (925) 723-9090 to find out more!
